Director-General statement following the eighth meeting of the Emergency Committee, June 3rd, 2010


After extensive discussions and questions, the Committee expressed the unanimous view that from a global perspective while pandemic activity is continuing, the period of most intense pandemic activity appears likely to have passed for many parts of the world. Committee members stressed that it remains critical for countries to continue to maintain vigilance concerning the pandemic, including all necessary public health measures for disease control as well as influenza virus and disease surveillance.

COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT IS ACTIVELY MONITORING            THE CURRENT H1N1 (SWINE) INFLUENZA

We are recommending all residents and visitors follow these guidelines to protect themselves from a potential virus:      

  1. Stay informed on current SWINE FLU INFORMATION and be  prepared see our GET READY NOW H1N1 SWINE (Spanish) flyer.


  1. Go to Self Evaluation for guidelines if you need to go to see your doctor or  a health care provider.


  1. Frequent hand washing can lessen the spread of flu-like illness.


  1. Practice good respiratory etiquette by sneezing or coughing into your sleeve or a tissue.


  1. Stay home if you are sick.  Do not send sick children to daycare or school.


  1. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.


  1. Do not share eating utensils and cups.


  1. Practice other good health habits including get plenty of sleep, exercise, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids and eat nutritious food.


  1. It is safe to eat properly handled pork.  Cook it to at least 160 degrees.
